Section 7: Attendance Policy

This policy is intended to support full contribution of all Board members.

Meeting dates for regular, in-person, MCAA Board meetings will normally be set far enough in advance to avoid conflicts with existing commitments of individual Board members that would prevent them from attending the meeting. Thus, it is expected that each Board member will do his or her best to attend each regularly scheduled Board meeting, unless an unexpected event (e.g., weather, family emergencies) outside the control of the Members prevents him or her from attending. Conference call participation (general business session and committee meetings) is accepted (but not preferred) for one meeting per year, not including the scheduled all Board teleconference.

The MCAA Board meets via phone and on campus a total of 3 times per calendar year. All members are required to attend and participate each meeting. If a Board member anticipates being absent from a Board meeting, the individual should notify the Associate VP of Alumni Relations as well as the Chair of the MCAA Board as to the reason for the absence. If a Board member is absent from two meetings within a two year period, a representative from the MCAA Executive Committee will discuss attendance expectations with the member to determine if the member can fully contribute for the remainder of his or her term. If it is determined a member is unable or unwilling to continue serving based on lack of adherence to this attendance policy, the member’s resignation will be accepted and the MCAA Executive Committee will deliberate on the appointment or nomination of a replacement.

This policy will be discussed in advance with potential nominees to the MCAA Board and included in the letter acknowledging acceptance to the Board.
