More than 50 alumni, family and Marietta College officials celebrated the official launch of the Western Pennsylvania Regional Association on Wednesday before heading to PNC Park watch the Pirates trounce the Mariners 10-1.
Western PA is the College’s sixth chartered regional association; it is the first charter delivered by Dr. William Ruud since he officially took the office as Marietta’s 19th president.
“It’s absolutely my pleasure to be here today,” he said to the group just before he provided an update on what’s happening on campus and what exciting opportunities are still to come.
He encouraged alumni to “come home for Homecoming” and enjoy the growing list of events being planned during the Oct. 14 through 16.
Tom Blust ’93 made the drive from his St. Clairsville, Ohio, home to celebrate the newest Marietta College Regional Association.
“I think it is something that is much needed,” he said. “It’s good to be able to socialize and it’s good for networking. You may not know everyone here, but you know everyone here has something in common: Marietta College.”
Lead Volunteer Mark Vizza ’98 was happy with the turnout for the chartering ceremony.
It shows what we can be in Pittsburgh and the Western PA region,” Vizza said. “Once this group gets more established and really connected, I see it getting bigger and better. This is a great building block for us.”
